Chapter 1: Is There Any Water on Mars?

To consecrate the inauguration of its two workspaces and begin the first chapter of the saga it offers, JMW Studio presents a poetic and incandescent array of artworks and lamps created by Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert, the vast majority of which are being shown for the very first time. Responding to the mocking title Chapter 1: Is There Any Water on Mars?, the exhibition conceived by Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert takes us to the red planet, from 17 May to 28 June 2019.

Projecting his plastic research laboratory there for the occasion, Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert invites us into his universe, into the cabinet of curiosities he has developed over time, where one finds, against the backdrop of questions of survival, a mixture of extra-terrestrial peregrination fantasies and powerful natural energies. Stemming from an imagination steeped in astrophysics and from everyday handwork on blown glass and brass, the exhibition literally plunges us into an astronomical and trans-temporal molten world that paradoxically radiates both serenity and urgency.

Through the journey to another spacetime offered in Chapter 1: Is There Any Water on Mars?, Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert creates a cosmic ballet that brings together science and mysticism, community and privacy, past, present and future, immanence and transcendence, micro- and macroscopy, meltings and solidifications, movements and crystallisations, transparencies and opacities, shadows and lights.

Formes et matières

Nucleus will be part of the exhibition « Formes et matières » at the Scène Ouverte gallery, from November 23, 2018, to January 12, 2019.
Opening on Thursday, November 22, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Nucleus is a creation where air meets fire, where liquid is solid and where centrifugal movement becomes apparent immobility. Thus, it magnifies material and shape while relating the poetic journey of light within glass. This journey, where the infinitely big and the infinitely small coexist, reveals a complex, subtle and mysterious material.

Auction for the benefit of La Source

Oooooh Vitra!, Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert’s transformation of Jasper Morrison’s Plate Tablewill be on sale at the 21st auction for the benefit of the association La Source.

Oooooh Vitra! is an ode to the sensuality of the material, to the power of elegant minimalism, to the mechanic of fluid, to facetious and malicious audacity, to « the unbearable lightness of the being ». Using his breath and hands, Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert provides the Plate Table with a new very erotic organ. This growth invites us to plunge our finger or hand to place or to find some marvelous and delightful treasures there, contributing to the vital quivering of the object, of the material.

Hôtel de l’Industrie, 4 Place Saint-Germain des Prés, Paris 6
Auction on Monday, December 10, 2018 – From 8 pm
Works’ exhibition from December 8 to December 10, from 11 am to 7 pm

It is organised in partnership with Bibliocité and the Bibliothèque Forney.

Aujourd’hui et demain

Cloud will be part of the exhibition « Aujourd’hui et demain : la jeune garde du verre français » at Musée/Centre d’art du verre in Carmaux, France, from April 1 to October 15.

Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert’s breath created Cloud. It symbolises both the passage and the suspension of time. Its contemplative nature is sublimated by a contemporary and elegant shape presenting smooth and diaphanous forms–the evanescent aspect is enhanced by the sandblasted surface–and varied patterns of colourful filaments, decorative color techniques inherited from the Venitian glass blowing tradition. Most of the time suspended in the air, Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert’s Clouds are here displayed at eye-level so you can discover the delicacy of details and have your head in the clouds while keeping your feet on the ground.

Handwerk und Design

Molten will be part of the exhibition « Handwerk und Design » at the Kunstgewerbemuseum from March 23 to April 15. This work is a literal translation of what happens on a blowpipe. It symbolises its own process of creation by reminding us the sparkles of the hot glass at the end of a blowpipe. Its contemporary design integrates decorative color techniques inherited from the Venitian glass blowing tradition.

« Heart of Glass » directed by Jérôme de Gerlache

Heart of Glass is a journey. A road trip through several countries on two continents in pursuit of a story. The story of a young glass blower with a singular talent: Jeremy Maxwell Wintrebert. The film follows him in his daily life working in the studio and on the road. Jeremy recounts growing up in Africa, where he drew inspiration for his first pieces. He speaks of his family of Franco-American origin, difficult events he faced, the challenges of returning to Europe. He speaks of his first encounter with glass at age 19. The first time he saw the hot glass moving at the end of a blow pipe was his seminal moment. The way the glass, fluid, delicate and mysterious, danced that day has forever changed him. The film reveals how passion can undo a tragic fate.
